Magic Presents: Open the Archive Introduces Strixhaven Mystical Archive Draft Event

Wizards of the Coast has officially announced Magic Presents: Open the Archive, a new in-store event for Magic: The Gathering players themed around Strixhaven's iconic Mystical Archive cards.

Running from May 22 to June 18, the event invites players to draft Secrets of Strixhaven with unique rules designed to highlight the powerful spells found within the Mystical Archive.

How Magic Presents: Open the Archive Works

During the draft, players will take a Mystical Archive card from each Play Booster they open in addition to their normal first pick. If a booster contains more than one Mystical Archive card, players may even choose another Mystical Archive card as their first pick.

The event also introduces a special gameplay rule that allows players to spend mana as though it were mana of any color when casting Mystical Archive cards. This opens up new deckbuilding possibilities during the draft.

Wizards of the Coast shared an example of players being able to run cards like Giant Growth inside a blue-red Prismari deck thanks to the event's flexible mana rules.

MTG Arena Rewards and Pinfinity Coin Prize

Players who participate in at least one Open the Archive event will receive a special Ral Zarek, Guest Lecturer avatar for MTG Arena.

Meanwhile, players who finish the event with a winning record can earn a limited Pinfinity coin featuring Mystical Archive-themed artwork while supplies last.

According to Wizards of the Coast, local game stores may run the event multiple times throughout the season, giving players several chances to collect the exclusive Pinfinity coin rewards.

Magic Presents: Open the Archive Dates

Magic Presents: Open the Archive will run from May 22 through June 18 at participating local game stores.

Players interested in joining the event are encouraged to contact their local game store for scheduling details and prize availability.
