1970s Rock Icon and Martin Scorsese Grace Charli XCX's New Album Cover
Who do you think of when you picture the realms of music, fashion and film?
For Charli xcx, three icons come to mind: John Cale, Marc Jacobs and Martin Scorsese. And they're all featured on the black-and-white cover of the pop star's upcoming album, which she just teased on social media.
"My new album Music, Fashion, Film is out july 24th," reads the caption of her Instagram post on Monday, June 1. "11 songs, 30 minutes, 5 seconds. available to pre order now, love you xx."
Fans have flooded the post's comments section with words of utter excitement for the forthcoming release. "NOW LOADING: ALBUM OF THE CENTURYYYYY," wrote one Instagram user, while another person commented, "WOWWWWWWW INSAAANE. Another paradigm-shifting work of art!!! 🤯🖤🖤🖤🙏🏽."
For those not familiar, Cale, 84, is a Welsh musician who is a founding member of the American rock band the Velvet Underground, having worked on their albums The Velvet Underground & Nico (1967) and White Light/White Heat (1968) before launching into his influential solo career in the 1970s.
Then there's Jacobs, 63, the famed American fashion designer with his iconic brand of the same name. Oscar-winning filmmaker Sofia Coppola recently directed a documentary about him, Marc by Sofia.
And finally, the film auteur. Scorsese, 83, has made some of the most impactful American movies over the decades, including Taxi Driver, GoodFellas, Raging Bull, The Departed and Killers of the Flower Moon. He was also Emmy-nominated recently, for his guest appearance in season 1 of Apple TV's The Studio alongside Seth Rogen.
Charli, 33, has already released two singles from the album: "Rock Music" and "SS26." The electro-pop artist, who broke through to the mainstream in 2024 with her hit album "Brat," has teased that her next release will be very different from her signature dance beats and Auto-Tune, Variety reports.
