Original 'Willy Wonka' Cast Reunites 54 Years Later-and They Look So Different
More than five decades after Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory first delighted audiences, several of the film's original stars reunited in Connecticut-and fans could hardly believe how much they had changed.
The reunion took place at Mohegan Sun in Uncasville, where cast members who once played Wonka's young golden-ticket winners came together to meet fans, sign autographs, and reminisce about the beloved 1971 classic.
The cast members, including Peter Ostrum (Charlie Bucket), Julie Dawn Cole (Veruca Salt), Paris Themmen (Mike Teevee), and Rusty Goffe (Oompa-Loompa), were on hand for the Chocolate Expo held at the resort and casino-and even tried their luck on a Willy Wonka slot machine.
Fans were delighted to see some of their favorite stars from the film in person, while those who couldn't make it to Mohegan Sun over the weekend enjoyed following the reunion on social media. Many couldn't get over just how different the cast looks more than 50 years after they starred in the beloved film.
"So fun!!! This is amazing," one Instagram user commented on one of the posts shared on Mohegan's official Instagram page. "I was visiting like a month ago and was so bummed they had removed almost all of their Willy Wonka machines. There's only like one left in either casino. It's the best series of slot machines! At least these guys got to play before they were all gone!"
"Omgggg! OG cast members!!! That's amazing! I wish didn't just break my leg so I could go!! That's one of my top 10 favorite movies and can quote almost the whole movie," someone else added.
"Omg stop. This is so awesome," a third comment read.
The original Willy Wonka& the Chocolate Factory was released in 1971 and starred Gene Wilder in the leading role.
