Fans Call Out 'Welcome to Plathville' Family for Criticizing Behavior They Once Encouraged
For years, the Plath family of TLC's Welcome to Plathville abided by strict rules and lived a sheltered lifestyle, but now some fans believe one family member is being criticized for embracing the very lessons they were taught growing up.
The Plath family was presented to viewers in 2019 as living in a highly controlled environment where strict rules shaped nearly every aspect of daily life. Their deep religious beliefs and deliberately sheltered lifestyle were prominently featured, and the family had limited exposure to outside influences, reinforcing the family's separation from mainstream culture.
Now, as Season 8 airs, it appears only one member of the Plath family continues to hold tightly to that belief system. However, instead of accepting those beliefs, other family members who have since abandoned their own are now making them feel like an outsider.
Lydia Plath continues to adhere to her family's conservative Christian beliefs. The remainder of her family, including parents Barry and Kim Plath, and siblings Ethan, Micah, Moriah, Isaac, Amber, Cassia, and Mercy, appears to have abandoned those teachings.

In an Instagram post discussing the series' latest episode, fans weighed in on what they called the family's hypocrisy. Many pointed to a disconnect between the family's current reactions and the values they once emphasized within their own strict upbringing.
"Lydia is exactly what they wanted her to be, and Zac [Wyse] is exactly the kind of man they wanted her to marry. It's the rest of the family who changed and moved the goal posts and decided they didn't want that anymore," wrote one follower.
A second fan penned, "It's pretty incredible how quickly Kim and the older kids (except for Lydia) forget how they were raised. Kim and Barry programmed the kids, and it's crazy how quickly they all walk it back after the divorce. Lydia is exactly how they raised her lol."
"Didn't Kim tell Olivia [Ethan Plath's ex-wife] that if she served alcohol at her wedding to Ethan, no one in her family would come? The weird hypocrisy has me flabbergasted!!" noted a third Instagram user.
A fourth social media user claimed, "This entire show has turned into a mockery of moral and values they initially stood for or at-least portrayed themselves as."
Welcome to Plathville airs on TLC on Tuesdays at 10:00 p.m. ET on TLC.
