Son of James Handy's Girlfriend Officially Charged With Murder

Michael Gledhill, the son of James Handy's girlfriend, has officially been charged with the actor's murder, TMZ reports. Specifically, he was charged with "one count of murder with a special allegation that he personally used a deadly weapon, a knife."

"This is not how anyone's life should end, stabbed in the chest and left dying in the front yard of a home," Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan Hochman said in a press release. "The victim deserved to live out his later years enjoying what he had worked so hard for and enjoying it with those he loved and cared about."

Handy was found in the morning on Wednesday, June 3, in the front yard of his Tarzana home with a stab wound to his chest. He was rushed to the hospital, but was later pronounced dead.

Gledhill is also said to have made a "bizarre" 911 call where he told dispatchers, "I am the son of man, I just killed the man of sin. He was arrested shortly after officers found Handy, and he ultimately flagged down authorities and said he was the one they were looking for. He was booked for one count of murder, and his bail was set at $2,000,000.00.

Gledhill's mom, Wendy, also spoke with TMZ earlier and talked about her son's mental health struggles, saying that he had been diagnosed with schizophrenia in July 2025 but had stopped taking his medication roughly a week before Handy's murder. She added that the relationship between the two was "generally cordial." And with that, Wendy was asked if her son should spend the rest of his life in prison, to which she responded that he "should not be where he can hurt anyone else."

"They know I loved him so much. I'm so sorry," she told the outlet. "I'm so sorry this happened. I'm still in shock. I still can't comprehend it."
