‘Godfather of Grunge' Announces Return to Stage After Canceling 2026 Tour

Neil Young, widely regarded as the "Godfather of Grunge," sparked massive buzz after announcing unexpected news following the cancellation of his 2026 tour.

Months after his decision to step away from touring for this year, the 80-year-old musician confirmed he would join the benefit concert Farm Aid, where he served as a co-founder along with fellow musicians Willie Nelson and John Mellencamp.

Together with his band the Chrome Hearts composed of guitarist Micah Nelson, drummer Anthony Logerfo, bassist Corey McCormick and organist Spooner Oldham, Young is set to perform some of his classic and signature tracks.

Known for its massive annual music festival, this year's Farm Aid is scheduled to take place on Sept. 26 at the Veterans United Home Loans Amphitheater in Virginia Beach.

Apart from Young and his band, the lineup boasts a slew of highly respected artists including Dave Matthews, Margo Price, Nathaniel Rateliff, Lukas Nelson, Mike Campbell and the Dirty Knobs, Turnpike Troubadours, Jesse Welles, Sierra Ferrell, Mon Rovîa, I'm With Her, Amythyst Kiah, Lily Meola and Chris Pierce and the organization's founders Nelson and Mellencamp.

Adding to the momentum, this year's event will mark the singer-songwriter's first major show in 2026.

Titled "A message from Neil," the two-time Grammy winner shared, "I have decided to take a break and will not be touring Europe this time. Thanks to everyone who bought tickets. I'm sorry to let you down, but this is not the time. I do love playing LIVE and being with you and the Chrome Hearts."

The European and U.K. performances are set to begin on June 17 at Bodelva, England and will conclude on July 26 in Udine, Italy.

Young's special guests include Elvis Costello and the Imposters as the opening act.
