Andy Cohen Finally Reveals Secret He's Kept for About a Year
Andy Cohen is finally sharing a piece of personal news he kept private for almost a year.
The Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen host opened up on Andy Cohen Live about his boyfriend, revealing they have been together for 11 months. Cohen said he met him at a July 4 party last year, then chose to move slowly before talking about the romance publicly.
For someone who spends so much time getting reality stars to spill their own secrets, Cohen admitted he had a reason for keeping this one close.
Andy Cohen Said He "Met the Person"
Cohen shared the relationship update while speaking on his SiriusXM show, explaining that he met his boyfriend at a friend's July 4 party in the Hamptons last year.
"I am really happy to say that I met the person, you guys," Cohen said. "I almost didn't go to the party, you guys," Cohen said. "And I dragged myself out."
Once he got there, Cohen said he saw him from across the party and knew he wanted to talk to him.
"I was like, I got to talk to this guy. Who is this guy?" Cohen recalled.
He Made Sure His Number Was Right
Cohen said the two talked all night, and he made a very deliberate move before the night ended.
"I very methodically put my number in his phone," he said.
The Bravo host also said his boyfriend later told him he knew Cohen was serious because of how carefully Cohen entered the number.
"Apparently, I said to him twice that night, make sure I want to make sure this number is right," Cohen said.
Andy Cohen Explained Why He Waited to Share the News
Cohen also spoke about why he did not immediately make the relationship public.
He described his boyfriend as "kind and strong and smart" and said he is "an adult." He also said the relationship has become part of his family life carefully.
"He loves my children, and they love him, and I love him," Cohen said.
Cohen, who is dad to son Ben and daughter Lucy, said the couple has been intentional in how they have built their relationship.
"We have been so slow and deliberate and methodical about getting to know each other and introducing him to the kids and just entering him into the equation of my family so slowly," he said.
Cohen Said He Still Can't Believe He Found Him
Nearly a year later, Cohen said the relationship still feels surprising to him in the best way.
"One year later, I still can't believe I found him," he said.
He also acknowledged that he is usually very open with listeners on the radio, but wanted to handle this differently.
"I do share everything with you guys on the radio, but I just thank you for giving me space here," Cohen said. "Not that you had a choice, but I just wanted to be smart and slow before saying anything about this."
