‘Cheers' Icon John Ratzenberger, 79, Exudes Cliff Clavin Vibes on the Red Carpet 33 Years After the Show

Cheers legend John Ratzenberger may have a long and successful career, but the star will always be Cliff Clavin to us.

The actor, 79, rose to stardom in the role of the Boston postal worker on Cheers, which aired on NBC from 1982 to 1993. Ratzenberger also has a successful career as a voice actor and is known for voicing the role of Hamm, the sassy piggy bank, in the Toy Story films. But in a rare red carpet appearance, the acting icon looked happy and healthy at the Los Angeles Premiere of Disney and Pixar's Toy Story 5 at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, California. Now that's a legend!

John Ratzenberger Loves New England

While Cliff Clavin lived at home with his mom on Cheers, Ratzenberger absolutely does not. The star played a Bostonian, but he hung his hat in his native state of Connecticut for many years. Back in 2023, the actor listed his Connecticut beach home for $2.45 million, Boston.com reported. The best part? The house has a cozy family room, which is the perfect spot to catch up on Cliff's favorite TV show, Jeopardy!

We would be remiss if we didn't share a moment of Cliff's legendary Jeopardy spot, of course. Don't miss Woody and Norm hanging out in the audience. Check it out below!

Ratzenberger Is Also a Seasoned Carpenter

While he's most famous as an actor, Ratzenberger is also a seasoned carpenter. He serves as the chief advisor of industrialization for Elite Aviation Products and is the founder of the American Manufacturing Hall of Fame. He also says his acting career wouldn't be possible without his carpentry skills.

"Most people don't realize just how big a role my carpentry skills played in my acting success. The 'manual arts' made it possible for me to pay my bills while I chased my dream. They saved me countless dollars I would have paid someone else to fix things when they broke-from toasters to TVs, windows to washing machines, roofs to refrigerators," he told TIME in 2015. "They helped me develop critical-thinking skills that I used to land my role as 'Cliff.' And they continue to inspire me every single day to impress upon others how important it is to teach our children these same skills."
