Vampires, beware!
Learn all about garlic at the annual Chehalis Garlic Festival and Craft Show this weekend at the Southwest Washington Fairgrounds, 2555 N. National Ave. Sample garlic-themed cuisine and watch chef demonstrations. There will be live entertainment on two stages and kids’ activities. A jazz friend
With a warm and lyrical sound, Dmitri Matheny brings jazz alive with his flugelhorn. The composer, musician, educator and producer is bringing his music and group to perform in an 8 p.m. show Monday at Rhythm & Rye, 311 Capitol Way N., Olympia. The performance is sponsored by Olympia Jazz Central and has a suggested $5 donation at the door.

Hitchcock films star of matinee series
The Olympia Film Society Silver Screenings, the latest addition to its special film series, is bringing classic movies back to the big screen. The 4 p.m. Saturday matinee will be Alfred Hitchcock’s classic “Rear Window” and Wednesday’s showing will be “The Third Man” playing at the Capitol Theater, 206 Fifth Ave. SE, Olympia. Beach education
It’s the final weekend for Meet the Beach with South Sound Estuary Association beach naturalists. Learn about the inhabitants of our local waterways and beaches at Tolmie State Park, 7730 61st Ave. NE, Olympia. Hours are 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday and noon-3 p.m. Sunday, rubber boots recommended. ‘Notorious’ ends summer series
The Movies at the Mansion series wraps up this week with the showing of Alfred Hitchcock’s “Notorious.” The classic film series is held at 8:45 p.m. Friday on the lawn of the Lord Mansion, home of the State Capital Museum. Screen ‘Big Hero 6’ with the family
Tumwater Parks and Recreation Screen on the Green outdoor movie series is concluding with the showing of “Big Hero 6” at the Tumwater Valley Golf Course, 4611 Tumwater Valley Drive SE. Seating starts at 7:30 p.m. Friday. Bring your own picnic. Low back chairs are allowed; grills, umbrellas and pets are not. The free event is great for families. Get in the swing
For a night of great bluegrass music, make plans to come out to Rhythm and Rye, 311 Capitol Way N., Olympia, to see the Oly Mountain Boys and the Pine Hearts perform starting at 9 p.m. Friday. The music is high energy and a Pacific Northwest flair. There is no cover charge.
