Olympia Garden Club plant sale: A variety of perennials, shrubs and succulents will be on sale from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at Johnson’s Nursery, 7032 Spurgeon Creek Road SE, Olympia. Proceeds support student scholarships and horticultural grants for Thurston County teachers.

Feast at the Reach fundraiser: The Nisqually Reach Nature Center is putting on an outdoor dinner that features Nisqually salmon, gourmet food, beverages, a raffle and silent auction from 4-6 p.m. at 4949 D’Milluhr Drive NE, at Luhr Beach. Author Susan Abulhawa: Orca Books and the Rachel Corrie Foundation will welcome Susan Abulhawa to Orca Books. The author of Mornings in Jenin, Abulhawa will talk about her new book, “The Blue Between Sky and Water,” a novel about four generations of powerful Palestinian women in Gaza. The event begins at 1 p.m. at Orca Books, 509 E. Fourth Ave., Olympia. Information: 360-352-0123.

Brats, Brews and Bands: The event is 1-9 p.m. in and around the Student Union Building (Building 27) at South Puget Sound Community College, 2011 Mottman Road SW, Olympia. Tickets cost $10, and all proceeds support local charities.

Sunday

Free violin and piano concert: The public is invited to attend a free concert and birthday celebration for Helen De Pastel, who turned 90 on Sept. 8. De Pastel, who is from Olympia, taught violin for more than 65 years at Grays Harbor College in Aberdeen, the University of Puget Sound in Tacoma and privately to numerous students. The concert, which will be performed by former students and Robert Jorgensen, is a seven-movement sonata for violin and piano composed by Karen De Pastel, her daughter. The celebration is at 2 p.m. at The United Churches of Olympia, 11th Avenue and Capitol Way. In lieu of flowers, gifts or cover charges, donations will be accepted to defray the concert cost.

Sept. 17

League of Women Voters: The Thurston County League of Women Voters will host a free public forum on the Trans-Pacific Partnership at 6:30 p.m. at the Olympia Center, 222 Columbia St. NW.
