Picoso to party with Brown Edition

It’s going to be a music party not to miss as Picoso celebrates the release of its new album, “Mi Paraiso,” on Thursday. With a style grounded in the the Caribbean, Picoso produces original music that spans the spectrum from traditional Cuban son and cha cha to dubbed out cumbia and reggaeton along with its staple of salsa. Joining in the party, the high energy funk band The Brown Edition will be throwing down its original stylings. The party is at 9 p.m. at Rhythm & Rye, 311 Capitol Way N., Olympia. $5. Invitation to ‘Invitation to Color’

A new group exhibition, “Invitation to Color,” now on display at The Washington Center for Performing Arts Gallery, 512 Washington St. SE, Olympia has set an artists’ reception for 6 p.m. Saturday. Come out to meet exhibiting artists Jennifer Lauer, Rose Nicholas, Sophie Stimson, Heather Grob, Betsey Nelson, Cathy Wiggins, Roger Cumming and Linda West, who have been working with and learning from Simon Kogan, artist, teacher and curator of the show for the past 10 years. Come play with your food

The harvest is on in local gardens and what better way to celebrate then to join the Olympia Food Co-op’s 10th Harvest Party Potluck on Sunday. There will be the annual Zucchini Grow-Off, Zucchnini Bake-Off and Zucchini Derby, along with music by LeoEgo, YodleLady, Citizen’s Band and K-Tels. Celebrate 20 years at Bigelow House Museum

Take a step back in time and discover the history of the Bigelow House Museum at its 20th anniversary celebration. There will be refreshments, living history interpreters, music by local musicians and a program honoring the Bigelow Family as well as donors and supporters. ‘Beat Happening’ is what’s happening

Join author Bryan C. Parker at the “Beat Happening” Book Release and Live Show at the Olympia Timberland Regional Library, 313 Eighth Ave. SE, Olympia. Parker will read from his latest book, part of the 33 1/3 series, followed by a Q&A and live performance from Calvin Johnson and others. Performing among the stars

Plan for a magical evening under the stars at Aerial Live at the Mansion. The performance is a collaboration between the aerialists of Airbound Underground and Olympia’s musicians and storytellers. The aerial performances will be accompanied by live music or poetic prose, and will be in the yard at the Mansion House, 503 Foote St. SW, Olympia. See the likes of Cody Hayman with Cedar Dreamer, Marloe Winter with Freak/s, Emily Van Kley with spoken word by Alejandra Abreu and music by multiple artists. It all begins at 8 p.m. Saturday. OFS’ coming attractions

Come out and find out what the Olympia Film Society is up to at its annual Membership Meeting and Open House from noon-2:30 p.m. Saturday. Learn about where the film society is headed and join in celebrating the group’s progress. News to be shared are the renovation plans, repairs and upgrades of the historic Capitol Theater, meet new board members and find out about joining.
