A celebration of water

Join Friendly Water for the World as it celebrates “Water, Earth and Music” with Swing 49, a gypsy jazz band based in Alaska. With their acoustic sound, the group plays a swing-style jazz, funk and soul influenced by Django Reinhardt. Event includes food, music and will help support Friendly Water’s new Building New Lives campaign that will train people in Africa how to undertake clean water efforts. 6:30 p.m. Friday (April 1) at the Woman’s Club of Olympia, 1002 Washington St. SE, Olympia. An eclectic musical mix

Gravity Quartet, known for combining classical instrumentation with themes drawn from mythology and the likes of David Bowie and the Beatles, performs 8 p.m. Saturday at the Eagles Lounge, 805 Fourth Ave. E., Olympia. Tickets are $15, available at bit.ly/25z0oar.

Gershwin, Porter, Berlin

Enjoy the spring concert of the Olympia Choral Society when it presents “Crazy for Gershwin, Porter and Berlin.” The group is under the direction of Terrance Robert Bernard Shaw and will be accompanied by Troy Fisher. Concerts are 7:30 p.m. Friday (April 1), 2:30, 7:30 p.m. Saturday, and 2:30 p.m. Sunday at the North Thurston High School Koval Center, 600 Sleater-Kinney Road NE, Lacey. The show is free, but donations will be accepted benefiting the choral society’s college scholarship fund. For information, see olympiachoral.org.

Ragtime cinema

Make it a two-for when Seattle musicians David Miles Keenan and Nova Karina Devonie perform an overture, then play the musical score for a screening of silent film “Steamboat Bill” at Traditions Café and World Folk Art, 300 Fifth Ave. SW, Olympia. Using ukulele, banjo, accordion, glockenspiel and other instruments, the musical score will mine the vein of ragtime. Come for the 8 p.m. show Saturday. Call 360-705-2819 for information.

April Fools in music

Party with the area’s up-and-coming artists Biome, Ghost Eater and Cobblestone at the April Fools Day Bash. The 8 p.m. show Friday (April 1) is at Capitol Theater, 206 Fifth Ave. SE, Olympia. Think small

Explore the science of tiny when the Hands On Children’s Museum, 414 Jefferson St. NE, Olympia, hosts “Nano Days” 5-9 p.m. Friday. Investigate Blue Morpho butterflies, ferro fluid and graphene and dress like a nano scientist for a night of fun. It is free. For information, call 360-956-0818.

Life and embroidery

“Embroidered Spaces,” the new exhibit opening at The Gallery at Minnaert Center for the Arts, 2011 Mottman Road SW, Olympia, features the hanging installations of artist Amanda McCavour. It will include life-size thread-drawn re-creations of apartment interiors lived in by the artist. Meet Toronto-based McCavour at the opening reception and artist talk 6-8 p.m. Monday. She is presenting an artist workshop ($75) noon-5 p.m. Sunday at Arbutus Fold School, 610 Fourth Ave. E., Olympia. A night for the risque

Atomic Bombshells Burlesque from Seattle celebrates a decade of decadence when it brings its award-winning show to the Capitol Theater, 206 Fifth Ave. SE, Olympia. Known for delivering choreography, comedy and sex appeal, the group promises to entertain as it takes the stage 9 p.m. Saturday. Tickets are $25, $20 for Olympia Film Society members.
