A night with some theatrical amphibians

Olympia Family Theater’sproduction of “A Year with Frog and Toad” opens Friday (May 13) and will continue through June 5. The whimsical musical tale of optimistic Frog and the somewhat grumpy Toad highlights the joy of ordinary things and is recommended for all ages. Showtimes at the theater, 612 Fourth Ave. E., are 7 p.m. Fridays and 2 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays. Tickets are $13-$19, and are available at olyft.org/tickets.

Crews to play Obsidian before launching tour

Fresh off performing at the Experience Music Project in Seattle as part of SoundOff, Olympia’s own Crews is embarking on its first West Coast tour. The indie, rock, psych and pop group will be playing a 9 p.m. concert at Obsidian, 414 Fourth Ave. E., Olympia, on Tuesday. Legendary Kingston Trio to perform at center

Bringing the rick folk music heritage to the forefront with a career spanning more than five decades, The Kingstron Trio today consists of Bill Zorn, George Grove and Rick Dougherty. With acoustic guitars, banjos and memorable melodies, the group continues the legacy. Come out to see them in a 7:30 p.m. concert Wednesday at The Washington Center for Performing Arts, 512 Washington St. SE, Olympia. Dig out those bobby sox (or your grandma’s)

Billed as the official tribute show to Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens and the Big Bopper, John Mueller’s Winter Dance Party highlights the music and work of the three music icons. Step back to the music of the ’60s with the likes of “Rave On,” “La Bamba” and “Peggy Sue.” The 7:30 p.m. concert is Friday (May 13) at The Washington Center for Performing Arts, 512 Washington St. SE, Olympia. Studentt Orchestras united for spring concert

The Student Orchestras of Greater Olympia come together for their spring concert at The Washington Center for Performing Arts, 512 Washington St. SE, Olympia. They will be playing Maslanka’s World Music, plus the brass choir and the academy and debut orchestras will perform in the 4 p.m. concert Sunday. Tickets are $6-$15. Saturday

Get some banjo music, support Sidewalk

Come out to support the nonprofit Sidewalk while enjoying an old-fashioned banjo band concert at First United Methodist Church of Olympia, 1224 Legion Way SE, Olympia. The Grays Harbor Banjo Band brings grins and jokes along with hand-clapping music of accordions, banjos, bass, clarinet, piano, mandolin saxophone, tuba, washboard and washtub bucket bass to the stage. The 7 p.m. performance is Saturday and is free, donations are being accepted to support Sidewalk. For more information, go to facebook.com/events/1081467285251160.

Does Wolverine have a sense of humor?

It’s that time again for fun improv when Something Wicked presents “Academy X: An Improv Show Inspired by X-Men.” The Harlequin Productions troupe engages the audience and brings laughter with its shows and even if you don’t know anything about X-Men, the performance is sure to entertain. Come out to State Theater, 202 Fourth Ave. E., Olympia for the 7 p.m. show Wednesday. Tickets are $15, $10 rush tickets available one-half hour before curtain.
