Guitar master coming to Black Box
Performing as part of the Black Box Cabaret Jazz Series, guitar master Leif Totusek will be playing his original music with his jazz group 1-2-3 in an 8 p.m. show Friday (May 20). He has played and collaborated with the likes of Mose Fan Fan, Ali Birra and Geoffrey Oryema. Set in the Black Box at The Washington Center for Performing Arts, 512 Washington St. SE, Olympia, the performance is for the 21-and-older crowd. Spirit of legendary Roy
Orbison coming
to center
Celebrating the 80th birthday of iconic musician Roy Orbison, Wiley Ray and the Big O Band will perform in an 8 p.m. concert Saturday. “Roy Orbison Returns” is a special production with all of Orbison’s hits including “Pretty Woman.” Head out to The Washington Center for Performing Arts, 512 Washington St. SE, Olympia for a night of music. SPSCC to exhibit student art
Discover the talents of local students at the annual Student Art Exhibition at The Gallery at Minnaert Center for Arts, 2011 Mottman Road SW, Olympia. The juried art show will present works selected by South Puget Sound Community College art faculty and include ceramics, drawings, paintings, printmaking, photography, mixed-media and more. As part of T Rex Queer Week at The Evergreen State College, Janet Mock will speak at 7 p.m. Saturday. The New York Times best-selling author of “Redefining Realness” and host of “So POPular” on MSNBC has become known as one of the most influential trans women today. The talk is in the Costantino Reacreation Center on campus, 2700 Evergreen Parkway NW. Time Warp again?
The “Rocky Horror Picture Show” is not so much a film as it is a phenomenon. It is considered the first and only true audience participation movie with people dressed up in costume, acting out scenes and throwing props at the screen. Get your Rocky Horror game on and head out to Capitol Theater, 206 Fifth Ave. SE, Olympia, for a screening at midnight Saturday. ‘Trapped’ explores issues
of reproductive rights
Learn and experience what it is like to be on the front lines of women’s reproductive rights at the screening of the film “Trapped.” Sponsored by Planner Parenthood and the Olympia Film Society, the documentary explores the effects of regulating laws known as TRAP laws, passed by legislatures with the fight going to the Supreme Court. It will be shown at 5 p.m. Sunday at Capitol Theater, 206 Fifth Ave. SE, Olympia. A question-and-answer session will be held after the film with Olympia’s Planned Parenthood. Readathon to celebrate
love of reading
Help celebrate the love of reading at Timberland Libraries participation in National Readathon Day. The party celebrates the love of silent reading at the library. Bring a book or select one from the shelves. There will be family-friendly activities including crafting a bookmark, refreshment and chances to win prizes.
