Friday (Sept. 2)

Bridge block party hosts bands, beats

Back for one final summer performance, The Bridge: End of Summer Block Party is bringing together local bands for a night of music. It will feature Artesian Rumble Arkestra, Animyst, Mr. Twist, DJ Pasquan and youth emcees of The Bridge. Come out for the 7 p.m. show Friday (Sept. 2) at Olympia’s Artesian Well, 415 Fourth Ave. E., Olympia. Event is free. For information, call 360-943-0785.

Kids Club loves ‘Angry Birds’

It’s the final showing of the Olympia Film Society’s Kids Club “The Angry Birds Movie” this weekend. The PG-rated animated comedy will be shown 11 a.m. Saturday at the Capitol Theater, 206 Fifth Ave. SE, Olympia. It’s free for kids 12 and younger, $8 general admission and $5 Olympia Film Society members.

‘Story of My Life’ starts theater season

The fall theater season kicks off with “The Story of My Life,” Olympia Little Theater’s production. The story of two boys who grow up together, how friendships survive and the people that change lives. Opening night is Thursday and the play continues through Sept. 18. Showtimes are 7:25 p.m. Thursdays-Saturdays and 1:55 p.m. Sundays at the theater, 1925 Miller Ave. NE, Olympia. Tickets are $9-$20. Come out to meet author Christian Carvajal (Lynn Savage) at the debut event of the new book “Mr. Klein’s Wild Ride.” Carvajal will read from the book and prepare festive surprises based on the sexy satire. Drink, dance to cap summer

Close out the summer with live music, local art, plus locally sourced food and drinks at the Hood Canal Summer’s End festival. Enjoy libations from the likes of Mosquito Fleet Winery, Hoodsport Winery and Hardware Distillery. Then check out art from 13 local artists. It is 2-8 p.m. Sunday at Alderbrook Resort and Spa, 10 E. Alderbrook Drive, Union.

Theater Artists Olympia is at

a crossroads, needs your help

Bring your support for Theater Artists Olympia at a benefit to keep the theater group at the Midnight Sun. A night of barbecue and outdoor movie, “Midnight Sun-Raiser” is at 7:30 p.m. Sunday. McDougall makes his music

Keeping to the unwritten rule of using what was left by those before while leaving something of your own for those who come after is how Scott McDougall approaches his music. Hailing from Portland, the one-man orchestra plays guitar or banjo as needed, bass drum and even harmonica, bringing energy to the stage. Phobia not your granddad’s grindcore
