Jersey Shore’s Mike Weighs In on Pauly D and Nikki’s Relationship After Cast Trip to Her Native Jamaica
Jersey Shore star Mike "The Situation" Sorrentino weighs in on Paul "DJ Pauly D" DelVecchio and Nikki Hall's relationship after the cast went on a trip to her hometown in Jamaica during an exclusive interview with Life & Style.
"It's great to see that dynamic. It's new, it's fresh, it's fun. And it's also great to see that side of Pauly, you know, in such a … in a very healthy, committed relationship," Mike, 41, tells Life & Style about Pauly, 44, and Nikki, 33, ahead of the season 8 premiere of Jersey Shore: Family Vacation.
Mike adds that Nikki is "very, very close" with his wife, Lauren Sorrentino. "It's great that my wife has, like, another bestie on the show, as well," the longtime MTV star says. "It just adds this new fun dynamic to the show that I'm sure the fans are eager to see."
Pauly and Nikki first met on the MTV show Double Shot at Love. They quickly sparked a connection on the show and took a major step in their relationship when they moved in together in 2020 amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
Nikki eventually started making frequent appearance on Jersey Shore: Family Vacation, though she stepped away from the show in 2022 after she got into a fight with costar Angelina Pivarnick. She later returned to the show in the second half of season 7 and is expected to make even more appearances in the upcoming season.
In addition to sharing his thoughts on Pauly and Nikki's romance, Mike also explains to Life & Style that the trip to Jamaica was particularly special because it was his first international vacation since he was released from prison in 2019. Mike previously served eight months behind bars for tax evasion.
He says the trip was "fire because Uncle Sam gave me back my passport." Mike continues, "So [I haven't] been able to travel for the past, you know, decade and so now I'm able to travel freely."
After noting that it was "really good to travel with my best friends," Mike explains why the trip to Jamaica was so personally rewarding.
"I've been doing everything right for many, many years. I've been sober. I've paid my debts to society, I did my probation, my community service and all that other things," he says. "So now, like, my reward is I got my passport back."
Despite explaining why the Jamaica trip has a special place in his heart, Mike reveals that his all-time favorite vacation featured on the show was their group trip to Miami because it marked the beginning of his "comeback journey" after he became sober.
"I'd have to say the favorite vacation for me was probably Miami. We went to Miami twice. The squad always loves Miami," Mike says. "It was the start of a new version of Big Daddy Sitch for me. It was my … the start of my sober journey. I proposed to my Laurens."
Jersey Shore: Family Vacation season 8 premieres on MTV Thursday, May 29, at 8 pm ET.
