Toe tapping and thigh slapping

It’s a night of musical strings when Olympia native Ethan Jodziewicz, who plays double bass, and Tatiana Hargreaves, award-winning Appalachian fiddler, come together for an 8 p.m. Friday concert at Traditions Cafe, 300 Fifth Ave. SW, Olympia. Bamboo princess

The Olympia Film Society launches a series of Saturday morning screenings of “The Tale of The Princess Kaguya,” created by hand by Studio Ghibli co-founder Isao Takahata over a series of decades. The family-friendly animated film revisits one of Japan’s most famous folktales. The screening begins at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Capitol Theater, 206 Fifth Ave. SE, Olympia. It will screen again at the same time Jan. 10, 24, and 31, plus Feb. 7. Kids 12 and younger get into the screenings free. For more information, go to olympiafilmsociety.org.
