Ben Folds’ Paper Airplane Request Tour to come to Olympia’s Washington Center this fall

Emmy-nominated singer-songwriter Ben Folds will bring his tour to Olympia’s Washington Center for Performing Arts this fall.

Folds will bring his Paper Airplane Request Tour to the Center, in downtown Olympia, on Sept. 25, the Center announced Wednesday.

As the tour name suggests, Folds randomly selects fan-requested songs from paper airplanes that attendees launch from the audience on cue, according to Consequence. The stop in Olympia is just one of many on the national tour that also includes Bellingham, Bremerton and Tacoma, according to his website.

The general public can buy tickets starting at $54 on Friday, May 3, according to a Center news release. Subscribers and Friends of the Washington Center (donors who support the Center) can access an “exclusive” pre-sale starting at noon Thursday.

Folds is a singer-songwriter and composer who’s created pop albums with the Ben Folds Five, as well as solo albums and collaborative records, for decades. He’s also composed for film and television.

He also served as the artistic adviser to the National Symphony Orchestra at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. He’s also an author, podcast host and advocate for arts and music education funding.
