Ben Folds announces October concert at Washington Center for the Performing Arts
Singer and songwriter Ben Folds is coming to Olympia Oct. 26 as part of his solo rock tour “Ben Folds and A Piano.” He is scheduled to perform at the Washington Center for the Performing Arts at 7:30 p.m.
The 33-date tour follows last September’s release of Folds’ most recent album, “So There.” It debuted at No. 1. On Billboard’s classical and classical crossover charts. The album includes his critically acclaimed "Concerto For Piano and Orchestra."
In announcing this tour, Folds said it would similar to the first solo tour he did in 2001. It will include performances of classic and current pop songs, storytelling and improvising with multiple instruments.
Folds first gained prominence as the front man for Ben Folds Five, an alternative rock band. The group, performing what Folds once described as “punk rock for sissies,” played from 1995-2000, before temporarily disbanding. They reunited in 2011.
His music career includes contributions on the soundtrack for “Over the Hedge” and “Hoodwinked.” He also was a judge on NBC’s a cappella singing contest, “The Sing-Off,” from 2009-13.
Tickets for the show, $16-$52, went on sale Friday. Special VIP packages are available for $159 and $159.
