Temple of the Dog reunites for five-city tour

Temple of the Dog, a Seattle supergroup featuring members of Soundgarden and Pearl Jam, will go on its first-ever tour – 25 years after the release of its only album. The five-city tour includes a Seattle stop (of course).

The reunion was announced Wednesday morning via fan club emails and social media, and promoted with a 33-second video on YouTube.

Temple of the Dog features Soundgarden’s Chris Cornell, Pearl Jam’s Stone Gossard, Jeff Ament and Mike McCready, plus Matt Cameron, who played drums with both Pearl Jam and Soundgarden. The band was started by Cornell to honor his friend Andrew Wood, the lead singer of Mother Love Bone, who died of a drug overdose in March 1990. The grunge/alternative rock band released one album, “Temple of the Dog,” in 1991.

“We wanted to do the one thing we never got to do … play shows and see what it feels like to be the band that we walked away from 25 years ago,” Cornell said of the 2016 tour.

The tour kicks off Nov. 4 at Tower Theater in Philadelphia, then goes to New York’s Madison Square Garden on Nov. 7. The band heads west for a Nov. 11 show in San Francisco and a Nov. 14 show in Los Angeles. The reunion wraps up with a Nov. 20 show at Seattle’s Paramount Theatre.

A ticket presale began immediately for members of Soundgarden’s, Pearl Jam’s and Cornell’s fan clubs. Tickets go on sale to the general public at noon July 29 through Ticketmaster.
