Some of the films are funny, others are contemplative. The common thread is they’re short and all Oscar nominees.

The Capitol Theater will be showing the five films nominated for an Academy Award in the animated short category.

The films are “Sanjay’s Super Team” directed by Sanjay Patel, seven minutes; “World of Tomorrow” directed by Don Hertzfeldt, USA, 17 minutes; “Bear Story” directed by Gabriel Osorio, 11 minutes; “We Can’t Live Without Cosmos” directed by Konstantin Bronzit, 16 minutes; and “Prologue” directed by Richard Williams, six minutes.

“You can partake in five animated films that span the globe and are so expertly made that they were chosen for film’s most prestigious award,” Olympia Film Society Executive Director Audrey Henley said in a news release.

Also being shown will be “If I Was God,” “Taking Flight,” “The Short Story of a Fox and a Mouse,” “The Loneliest Spotlight” and “Catch It.”

In all, there will be 84 minutes of films shown.

Henley noted that the films were scheduled so “Prologue” will be the last film shown. The six-minute film is a hand-drawn depiction of a battle scene, and includes violence and some male nudity not suitable for young children. The theater will show a parental guidance warning prior to this short, to give parents time to usher children out of the theater — if they choose.

Other than “Prologue,” the program is acceptable for children of all ages.

The films will be shown beginning Saturday and running through Thursday.

Tickets for the show can be purchased at the box office 30 minutes before showtime. Go to olympiafilmsociety.org for details and showtimes.
