'Smallville' alum Laura Vandervoort reveals she suffered a miscarriage

Smallville star Laura Vandervoort is opening up about her recent pregnancy loss.

“Loss. It’s been 2 months and nine days since we lost you. And it still hurts. Miscarriage loss is a loss. A death that has no funeral an da life no one knew existed but a few,” the actress, 41, wrote via Instagram on Wednesday, July 8, alongside a video showing four positive pregnancy tests and two ultrasound photos.

“We heard your heartbeat, twice,” she continued. “The second time it was stronger than before. Plans that were made, nursery ideas in my heart, excitement and hope. Fear an love. Moving through the past few months has been a challenge in many ways. Every week I know how far along I would have been. Every pregnancy announcement stabs in ways I wish it wouldn’t. Every pregnant woman I see I wonder if that’s what I would have looked like.”

The actress added, “Our visit to the emergency room that day was made even more traumatizing by a doctor told us our babies heart had stopped in front of an entire waiting room of people. But we move forward in the day to day activities, like nothing happened. But something did happen… something life changing and devastating for us both. And it’s still heavy. You are never forgotten little one.”

Vandervoot went on to share what she wished more people would discuss when it comes to pregnancy loss, a common reproductive outcome that impacts an estimated one in four confirmed pregnancies, according to the World Health Organization (WHO).

“I wish more people would have discussions about this as it’s incredibly common yet at the time we felt very isolated in the experience,” she concluded. “Keep the conversation going.”

The actress added the hashtags “11 weeks” and “loss,” signifying that she was told she had lost her pregnancy at 11 weeks gestation - in the first trimester, when most miscarriages occur.

News of the actress’ loss comes just 10 months after she said “I do” to husband Adam Coates during a “rustic an elevated” wedding at Langdon hall County House, Hotel & Spa in Canada.

“Adam is the most thoughtful, warm and beautiful human I have ever known. Hardworking, dedicated and my forever soulmate. I admire his determination, drive, work ethic, sense of humor, intelligence, goofiness and calm demeanor. He’s kind and loving,” Vandervoot told People magazine of her husband shortly after the pair’s nuptials. “I love that we are best friends first and foremost, partners in crime. I love our little family we have created with the pups, our routines and all the goofiness that comes with it. I am grateful to have finally found my soulmate and can’t wait to share the rest of forever with him.”
