With wildfires raging in the West, South Sound burn ban set to take effect Sunday

As wildfires ravage some parts of the West, local preventive measures will go into effect this weekend.

The Olympic Region Clean Air Agency (ORCAA) announced that a residential outdoor burning ban in Thurston County will begin Sunday and extend until Sept. 30.

The ban applies to residential yard-waste burning as well as all land clearing burns. Recreational fires are allowed on private residential properties and in established fire rings within county, state or federal campgrounds, ORCAA officials said.

A residential outdoor ban in Clallam, Jefferson, Grays Harbor, Mason and Pacific counties began earlier this month.
