Noah Ashenhurst will read and sign copies of his debut n ovel "Comfort Food" at 7 p.m. Saturday at Orca Books, 509 E. Fourth Ave., Olympia.
Attendees are invited to bring donations of nonperishable food items for Thurston County Food Bank to the event.
In addition, Ashenhurst, a Mason County high school teacher, plans to donate $2 of each book sold during the event to the food bank.
"The issue of hunger is underappreciated for those privileged enough to never have to worry about it, while for others it is a day-to-day reality," he said. "I wanted to do something to give back to the community. As individuals, problems seem overwhelming, but together we can make real change. There are too many people dependent on food banks for us to become complacent."
