It's summer, and it looks like everyone wants to look their best. Even our furriest friends are looking to get into their best shape for the season. With the help of her farmer human, this sheep is taking a trip to the salon for a "little" hair trim, and we definitely think she looks fabulous.

In a YouTube clip taken by a U.K.-based farmer, we can get an up-close look at what it's like to shear a sheep. While she didn't quite cry at the salon over losing all her hair, we do think she should've at least gotten to choose her cut. At the end, she got a fabulous trim and is ready for the warmer weather.

While sheep shearing is done for health and comfort reasons for the sheep, we will go along with the theory that this sheep just wanted to get a nice haircut for the summer. Sheared by her human father, this sheep went from fuzzy and full to airy and light.

In the comments, many couldn't help but joke about the sheep's summer haircut. "A shearer is a pearl of great price. The sheep feel better, but it is not their best look. But we won't tell them."

Another viewer added a great pun with, "Not baaaaad looking."

Why Do Sheep Need to Be Sheared?

While this sheep might've gotten a trim for a better look, the truth is that sheep shearing is often necessary to keep them comfortable in hot weather. During the summer months, a thick wool coat can often cause heat stress and heatstroke in sheep. Additionally, untamed wool often creates the ideal environment for feces, moisture, mud, and more to accumulate. This can become an ideal setting for parasites to lay eggs, causing a fatal condition named flystrike.

Especially for ewes(female sheep), shearing helps keep them clean in the rear, supporting successful breeding and healthy lambing. In the same way, shearing helps remove unruly wool that would otherwise block a sheep's eyesight. Heavy wool can also weigh down the sheep, a condition called "wool blindness."

Overall, shearing is a necessary process for a sheep, as wool doesn't shed naturally. Helping to keep them comfortable, healthy and mobile, shearing keeps our fuzzy friends light, happy, and active.
