Great Danes Can Have a Variety of Coat Colors
This stunning pup is such a cutie with his coat that has an interesting pattern to it, and not what you might initially expect with a Great Dane. It might be surprising to learn that this dog breed can come in a variety of coat colors and patterns.
According to the Great Dane Club of Canada, Danes come in seven recognized colors, including solid and patterned varieties. This includes:
- Fawn, which is a yellow body with a black mask on the face
- Brindle, which is a golden coat with black stripes that looks like a tiger
- Solid black
- Solid blue, which looks more like a steel shade of gray
- Harlequin, which is a white coat with torn black patches all over
Boston or Mantle color is a recognized pattern described by the Great Dane Club of Canada as "marked like a penguin," and these dogs must have a white tail tip to be considered Boston or Mantle.
Then there's merle, a pale gray to dark gray base coat with torn black patches, and the mantle merle, a white solid coat with a merle blanket that extends across the body.
Of course, thanks to genetics, you can have Great Danes who have slight variations from these, like a harlequin who has more black on their coat than typical or larger white spots, or brindles with no base color (like fawn).
This sweet puppy looks like he fits the harlequin pattern, and that's why he's so unique.
