'Marshals' Season 1 Ending Explained: Does Kayce Sell East Camp?
The epic conclusion ofMarshals has finally arrived. The Yellowstone spinoff has brought a ton of new characters and created a new police procedural life for Kayce Dutton (Luke Grimes). The entire season has had several stand-alone story arcs, but one overall threat: The organized criminal element threatening the Broke Rock reservation and the mines. In the Season 1 finale, "Wolves at the Door," all of this tension comes to a head in an explosive and consequential finale, with at least one major cliffhanger.
But for fans of the Yellowstone franchise in general, one element of the status quo has been looming in a big way: Will Kayce sell his land known as East Camp? Here's what to know about Kayce's big decision, and what happens with the rest of the team in the Season 1 finale. Spoilers ahead.
Kayce's East Camp Decision, Revealed
After a lot of soul-searching, Kayce tells the Weavers that he's not ready to sell East Camp, despite the generous offer and the fact that he's getting closer with Dolly Weaver (Ellyn Jameson). Even though East Camp gets shot up, and old man Tom Weaver (Chris Mulkey) is revealed to be connected to some extreme corruption, Kayce stays firm on keeping his land. But what do the finale moments of the season really mean?
Is Tom Weaver Secretly Working Against Kayce?
As Kayce's son, Tate (Brecken Merrill), heads out on what seems to be a generous fishing trip with Tom Weaver, one of Weaver's associates says, "it's been handled, sir." This ominous moment suggests that the Weavers are behind some kind of sinister plot against Kayce, or Broken Rock, or the Marshals in general. Most likely, this means that Weaver is funding some of the hired guns who are trying to gain more land. But it's also not entirely clear what has been "handled."
This also begs the question as to whether or not Dolly's feelings for Kayce are totally genuine, or if she's trying to distract Kayce while her family manipulates him. The ending of the season, at least for Kayce, seems like a happy ending, but with Cal and Belle under fire at the same time Kayce and Dolly ride off into the sunset, there's plenty to unpack for Season 2.
For now, Kayce might be keeping his land and a piece of the Dutton family legacy. But with this many unanswered questions, Marshals Season 2 will probably bring even more changes than anyone can possibly imagine.
