Director Owen Harris Reveals Exciting Details About 'A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms' Season 2
Who's ready for more Westerosi adventures with Ser Duncan "Dunk" the Tall and his squire, Egg? Game of Thronesprequel A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms took HBO by storm back in January, and it quickly became the new franchise darling. It was a massive hit for the entertainment juggernaut, averaging 14 million US viewers and 26 million global watchers per episode. Its Season 1 finale, which aired on Feb. 22, brought in a whopping 9.5 million viewers over three days. Needless to say, the fantasy epic is quite popular.
Show director Owen Harrisrecently spoke with Gold Derby about bringing George R.R. Martin's Tales of Dunk and Egg novellas to life. Harris also teased the highly anticipated sophomore season, sharing what he's most looking forward to fans seeing:
"The development of their [Dunk and Egg] adventure, their story, this awkward couple, and how they learn from each other, and what they learn about themselves. I think that's going to be fun. It's a different world and looks visually new. You can't go back and try and repeat what you've done, and what we did had its own personality based on where it was set. This is going to be different. But hopefully, you still enjoy going on the ride with them."
Harris also dove into what sets A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms apart from Game of Thrones, noting that Martin's novellas are "wittier." "It doesn't have the weight of something as grand as the rest of the franchise, which allowed it to be more playful. The humor is actually what sets it apart and allows you to maybe take some more wild swings creatively," he said.
Season 2 will star Peter Claffey and Dexter Sol Ansell as Dunk and Egg, respectively, along with newcomersLucy Boynton as Lady Rohanne Webber of Coldmoat, Babou Ceesay as Ser Bennis of the Brown Shield, and Peter Mullan as Ser Eustace Osgrey of Standfast in the Reach. It will adapt the second Dunk and Egg novella, The Sworn Sword.
A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms Season 2 will premiere in 2027 on HBO and HBO Max.
