How T-Mobile Is Powering MLB All-Star Week -- Including New Cameras Offering Pitcher's-Eye View

One of the most exciting weeks in sports is just around the corner: MLB All-Star Week, with festivities kicking off July 10 in Philadelphia.

The week's marquee event, the T-Mobile Home Run Derby, goes down July 13 at Citizens Bank Park. The field is not yet set. So far, Tampa Bay Rays star Junior Caminero (the first to commit to the event) and New York Yankees slugger Ben Rice are the only ones who have said yes to the swing-off contest.

Though the Home Run Derby will revert to a set number of swings instead of a countdown clock, the Derby, streaming live for the first time on Netflix, and the All-Star Game are events diehard baseball fans always look forward to.

This season, fans were introduced to the fan-favorite ABS (Automatic Ball-Strike) Challenge system. MLB tested the technology -- in which players can challenge umpire ball-and-strike calls and get a precise answer within seconds -- in the minors before introducing the system to the big leagues this season. The ABS Challenge system has been a hit with players and fans, to say the least. Just ask Reds fans, who went wild when ABS scored the entire stadium free pizza earlier this season.

The ABS Challenge System is powered by T-Mobile, which offers real-time pitch data transmitted to 5G-connected devices. It's technology that most fans take for granted when reviewing data on their MLB TV app (free every season for T-Mobile customers). Ditto for Netflix, available at no extra cost to T-Mobile customers with the "On Us" plan.

But what's cool about T-Mobile's partnership with MLB is that, for the first time this year, fans will get a pitcher's-eye view of their favorite players warming up before the Home Run Derby thanks to new 5G cameras mounted on the L-screen at the pitcher's mound. There will also be aerial drones, batting cage cameras, and more.

"Every All-Star Week, we get to show fans what T-Mobile brings to the game. This year, with our network powering ABS across all 29 U.S. ballparks and over 5,000 challenges already made, that story has never been clearer -- T-Mobile is at the heart of how baseball is played and watched," said Lucy McLellan, T-Mobile's Chief Brand and Communications Officer. "We're always focused on finding ways to push the game forward -- whether that's the technology powering it, the operations running it, or the experiences fans remember long after they leave the ballpark -- and doing that in Philadelphia during such a historic year for the country, with America's game in the city where it all began, is pretty special."

Planning to be in Philadelphia during MLB All-Star Week? T-Mobile customers will have access to Club Magenta directly across the street from Citizens Bank Park at Stateside Live! T-Mobile customers and up to two guests can enjoy complimentary drinks during Magenta Hour at the exclusive member lounge.

Fans will also have the chance to meet Philly legends Ryan Howard and Chase Utley, plus other current All-Stars.

Club Magenta opens Monday, July 13, and Tuesday, July 14, from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. ET.

You can catch T-Mobile Batting Practice live at 6 p.m. ET on July 13 on MLB.com and MLB's social channels. The T-Mobile Home Run Derby is slated for 7 p.m. ET on Netflix, and the MLB All-Star Game is on FOX at 8 p.m. ET.
