In the TikTok from @chelseyandthekitties, Artemis strolled toward the camera as his orange feathery fur flowed with every step. Yet it was his ginormous paws that were more noticeable than anything else.
Artemis's obvious extra toes made him look like he was wearing boots or some other fancy footwear. Some polydactyl cats have a few more toe beans that are a bit understated, but not Artemis. His paws were truly massive and could make anyone stop and stare.
Artemis recently had a hospital stay where one paw was shaved down at the ankle, making it appear like he was wearing a glove. Followers were in awe over the pretty kitty's paws and compared them to everything from clothing to a food item:
- "I can't unsee the Ugg boot," one remarked.
- "It's like a chicken drumstick," another noted.
- "It looks like a boxing glove - I love him," a follower raved.
- "It's like an oven mitt," someone pointed out.
- "He looks like he's wearing a mitten on the one foot!" a fan gushed.
Polydactyl Cats Have Extra Toes Thanks to a Genetic Quirk
Polydactyly is a genetic condition where a cat is born with extra toes, which is caused by a genetic mutation that's passed down from one parent. This gene affects the development of paws during pregnancy.
This condition doesn't cause any health issues though they can require extra care including nail trimming and regular checks of paw pads.

The amount of extra toes varies for every cat, with some sporting "thumbs" making it look like they are wearing mittens. Polydactyl cats are believed to have some benefits like better balance, dexterity, and climbing ability, where the extra digits can also be helpful for hunting.
Artemis is a wonderful example of how adorable these fancy feet can look on a feline.
