'Persona 4 Revival' Producer Confirms Major Changes for a Controversial Character

Persona 4 Revival is one of the most anticipated games of 2026. As a remake of the original Persona 4 Golden title, some fans may have expected the game to be exactly the same as the original, but it seems there are some big changes coming to one character in particular.

In a new interview with Persona 4 Revival producer Kazuhisa Wada, Wada was asked about changes being made to the remake to fit a modern audience, and his answer was aimed a lot at Yosuke, one of the most polarizing characters in the game.

Wada emphasized that there were very few changes made to the story or characters, except for Yosuke, saying the changes were "mostly with Yosuke, really."

Fans were quick to notice in the game's deep dive gameplay demonstration last month that Yosuke's dialogue had been changed from the original game. Yosuke could be characterized as a sexually charged womanizer, often making remarks about girls or making implicit jokes.

One of the biggest pieces of controversy surrounding Yosuke, though, is his treatment of Kanji in the game, whose sexuality has been a big conversation since the original game's release. Yosuke frequently teases Kanji throughout the game if he is gay or not.

Wada expanded on Yosuke's changes, saying, "He's a little bit insensitive in terms of how he treats outsiders sometimes. So we wanted to lighten that up and make it a little bit more fitting for the world we live in now."

One of the biggest storylines for Yosuke is acceptance and his eventual friendship with Kanji, so it remains to be seen how that is handled in the remake.

Notably, Yosuke was, at one point in the development of the original game, a purported romance option for the main character. It has not been confirmed whether that romance option will be officially added to Persona 4 Revival or not.

Persona 4 Revival releases on February 18, 2027, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. A Nintendo Switch 2 version has been rumored to also be in development.
