Rottweiler Has a ‘Surprise Baby' and Can't Believe Mom Doesn't Think He's the Dad

Rottweilers get a bad rap, and it's one of the things that makes me the angriest. I've never met a Rottweiler who wasn't the sweetest dog ever. As a bit of a downside though, I also have never met one who didn't immediately try to slobber all over my face.

Recently, one Rottweiler decided it was for the best for him to take in a baby. His mom found him lying with a tiny kitten, and she had to break some pretty hard news to him ... But he didn't believe her. As far as he knows, that's his baby:

It's not the size of the dog that determines whether they are safe around kittens. It's the size of their heart. #catsanddogs#dogbehavior#kittensanddogs#rottweiler#fosterkittens

Judah and Piper are the two Rottweilers who live in this house, but the one in this video is Judah. He cares for any and all of the little babies his mom might bring home! He has a huge heart, which is great because it matches his absolutely massive body.

There are a few cats in the house already, so both Judah and his sister know how to behave around them. The tiny kitten is completely safe! She's probably enjoying the extra warmth her 100+-pound personal space heater is providing. Even in the summertime, kittens tend to get cold easily.

Judah is just a gentle guy overall. Though he loves to play rough with his sister sometimes, he also needs a lot of snuggles every day - preferably while wearing his most handsome pajamas:

I can't handle it. He looks so sweet in those ducky pajamas! I wish I could snuggle in and read him a bedtime story!

Are Rottweilers Good With Cats?

If you watch just about any movie where dogs are featured and there needs to be a "bad" one, it's almost going to be a Rottweiler. They're portrayed as territorial, mean, and downright dangerous ... But that's not exactly the case.

Rottweilers can get along with cats perfectly well. These dogs are gentle-natured, and although they're not always aware of their own size, they have enough common sense not to push the limits. If you want to make sure your Rottweiler is cat-friendly, try:

  • Bringing them around kittens/cats when they're puppies.
  • Asking if they can do a "cat test" if adopting from a shelter.
  • Adopting a kitten rather than a full-grown cat, as that can sometimes be easier to adjust to.

Patience, space, and knowing what you're doing will be the key to success in cases like this. Luckily, Judah was a natural!
