Woman Turns Boring Planters Into Stunning Archway With Pool Noodles
High-end event decor can drain a party budget, but thankfully, we live in a time where social media proves that luxury can be created for pennies on the dollar. TikTok DIY creator Bargain Bethany (@bargain.bethany) makes the most of summer by turning everyday dollar-store items into stunning custom decor.
Using items from Dollar Tree, she creates a dreamy floral arch that is perfect for summer parties, weddings, baby showers, backyard gatherings, or even just to make a yard feel a little more magical. Here's how you can easily recreate this budget-friendly trellis.
Summer With a Splash of Charm
@bargain.bethany POV: You walked into Dollar Tree... but all I saw was home decor. I took a few everyday items and turned them into this dreamy floral arch that's perfect for summer parties, weddings, baby showers, backyard gatherings, or even just to make your yard feel a little more magical. #dollartree#dollartreediy#summerhacks#weddingdecor#dollartreefinds

To start building the main structure of this DIY backdrop, a sturdy foundation needs to be established. Two deep planters are set up as the base anchors. Drive the broom handles deep in the center of each pot to ensure the vertical sides of the archway stay firmly upright and are well-supported before moving on to creating the signature curved top section of the frame.
For the top arch, a standard plastic hula hoop is cut in half. Splitting the plastic right down the middle gives the perfect curved arch pieces. This halved hoop is lined up with the tops of the vertical side supports and duct-taped to them securely so that the frame stays fully attached. With the arch skeleton locked down, the next step builds up the overall thickness so decorations can be easily attached. A long, clean slit is made straight down the length of the pool noodles, allowing them to open and wrap completely around the broom handles and the hula hoop.
Bringing Your Own Magical Backdrop to Life
Once the foam covers the frame, zip ties are used to secure the garland around the pool noodles, then fake flowers and baby's breath are placed directly into the pool noodles. Pushing the stems right into the soft foam surface makes it easy to arrange across the trellis until the layout looks full. To finish the look, the planters are covered with greenery and matching blooms, too, so no part of the base is left exposed.
When planning to build a version of this display, the styling can easily be customized to fit whatever event is on the calendar. For a late-summer vibe, working with vibrant sunflowers or faux hydrangeas can add a lush texture to the arch. It is even possible to swap out the bright summer palette and create a gorgeous autumnal arch by filling the foam noodles with deep burgundy faux mums, golden maple leaf garlands, and miniature pumpkins secured with floral wire. It is an inexpensive, easy project to help you fully embrace the beauty of the shifting seasons.
