42-Year-Old Water Park Suddenly Shuts Down During Busy Summer Season

Late last month 12 children were injured by an electrical non-compliance issue at Cultus Lake Waterpark in British Columbia.

Ten of the children were middle school students on a field trip, a spokesman for the local school district said. They remained hospitalized a day after with what the police described as serious but not life-threatening injuries.

"Today (Monday June 15, 2026) at approximately 11:05am, a serious incident occurred near one of our rides at Cultus Lake Waterpark, in the queuing area. We are deeply saddened by the incident which occurred today resulting in injuries to a number of guests visiting the park, including children," the water park announced on the day of the incident.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims injured and families affected by this unfortunate event. We would like to thank Cultus Lake Fire Department and paramedics for their support and care today."

Cultus Lake Waterpark Still Closed

In the initial statement, Cultus Lake Waterpark announced it would shut down "for the next 48 hours in order to conduct a thorough and independent investigation."

Three weeks later, the water park remains closed, with the latest update coming on June 28 suggesting the park would reopen "in the second half of July" while making it clear tickets are still not for sale for any future dates.

"We are continuing to work through the inspection and approval process with Technical Safety BC, and we understand that this process will take time. Once a reopening date, operating hours, and ticket options have been finalized, new tickets will be released for purchase. In the meantime, we have temporarily suspended all ticket sales and are issuing refunds to all ticket holders," the water park said in its latest statement.

"We appreciate your patience and understanding as we complete the remaining inspections, repairs, and receive regulatory approvals."

Those hoping to escape the summer heat in the area's largest water park will have to wait.
