Trader Joe's Announces 25 New Store Locations Across 14 States

Trader Joe's fans have plenty to look forward to.

The beloved grocery chain is continuing its rapid expansion in 2026, announcing plans to add 25 new stores across 14 states over the coming months. The move comes after Trader Joe's opened 34 new locations in 2024 and another 43 in 2025, showing no signs of slowing down.

Where Trader Joe's Is Expanding

Nine additional stores were recently added to the company's "Opening Soon" list, joining several locations that have already opened or are expected to debut later this year.

The newest announcements include stores in:

  • Phoenix, Arizona
  • Sarasota, Florida
  • Chicago, Illinois
  • Quincy, Massachusetts
  • Farmington Hills, Michigan
  • Syracuse, New York
  • Yonkers, New York
  • University Heights, Ohio
  • West Jordan, Utah

Those stores join previously announced locations across Arizona, California, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Kansas, Louisiana, Massachusetts, New Jersey, Utah, and Washington.

Why Trader Joe's Picks Certain Cities

Trader Joe's now operates more than 600 stores across 42 states and Washington, D.C., but eight states still don't have a single location.

According to the company's Inside Trader Joe's podcast, population density and traffic patterns play a major role in deciding where new stores are built. The grocer has also said supply chain logistics make expansion into states like Alaska and Hawaii more challenging.

More Stores Are Still on the Way

While Trader Joe's hasn't announced opening dates for its newest locations, the company expects the latest wave of stores to open over the next six months.

For shoppers who have been hoping for a Trader Joe's closer to home, 2026 is shaping up to be another big year for the popular grocery chain.
