Aug. 19: School Supply Give-Away Hope Church will be offering free school supplies for students attending Stewart Middle School or Mary Lyon, Whitman, Sheridan, and Blix elementaries (the student must be in attendance to receive supplies). July 24: Priest Point Park Volunteer Work Party Thanks to a $20,000 grant from REI, we are building a new trail to the beach at Priest Point Park. July work parties will focus on building the new trail and decommissioning a user path that is causing erosion. Aug. 6: Shoreline Cleanup with Citizens for a Healthy Bay Join CHB on the north shore of Commencement Bay. Play “Trash Bingo” and learn how to prevent water pollution. Collect trash from a 2-mile stretch of shoreline including three habitat restoration sites. Bring a kayak or paddleboard and paddle the shoreline or join the land crew. Aug. 11: Monthly Plant Walks Join local plant experts for a guided tour of McLane Creek Nature Trail’s diverse flora. Learn to identify and appreciate a variety of native perennials, ferns, shrubs, and trees as they grow and change. Learn the names and the ecological and ethnobotanical roles of Washington’s native plants in a wild habitat and get tips for integrating them into your own garden or landscape. Aug. 19: Volunteer Stewardship — Habitat Restoration Join us for our regular stewardship activities as we care for the park by removing invasive plant species, replanting areas with native plants and helping those plants thrive.
