If you thought a delivery truck playing jangly music bringing cold beer to your neighborhood street was too good to be true, it turns out you are right.

The Olympian published a feature story about Headless Mumby Brewing Co.’s creative attempt to stay in business. And on Friday evening, Headless Mumby had some bad news for beer lovers.

“So we got a visit from Liquor Control yesterday and they shut us down,” owners Keith Ciani and Alex Maffeo wrote in an email to freelance writer Molly Gilmore. “It wasn’t because of the article — they’d been onto us for a bit.

“We weren’t shocked to learn we violated a few things. ... The Liquor Control Board has been fantastic and is helping us get the right permits to do home delivery — it’s just not the way we wanted to do it.”

They posted this on Instagram and their webpage for customers:

“Hop Rocket Grounded! When COVID-19 forced taprooms to close, beer delivery regulations were tweaked to help breweries quickly pivot. We thought we had taken the proper steps but were very kindly reminded by the Washington Liquor and Cannabis Board that we missed a few things (like ALL the things).

“Headless Mumby is a small family-run business and we are trying our best to stay afloat. The support we’ve received from the community has been amazing — and we are beyond grateful. Though we def earned/deserved the LENGTHY list of violations, we loved seeing the smiles on your faces — so we’ll keep you posted as we move towards compliance.”
