Point Defiance Garden Festival is Sunday in Tacoma
The second Point Defiance Garden Festival will cover broad territory in home gardening. The event also will double as a fundraiser for the Japanese Garden at Point Defiance.

When: 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Sunday.
Where: Point Defiance Park.
Cost: Entry is free.

Fundraiser: Funds raised from vendor sales will go to the redesign of the Japanese Garden at the park.
Lectures: John Valentine, a WSU Extension master gardener volunteer, will speak at 10 a.m. about organic pest control. At 11 a.m., he’ll talk about growing food year-round. At noon, WSU soil scientist Craig Cogger will talk about organic soil amendments. At 1 p.m., Dana Bressette will speak about edible native plants. At 2 p.m., garden designer Mark Bourne will talk about Japanese gardens. At 3 p.m., Lisa Lindholm from Gardensphere will talk about keeping backyard chickens.
Garden marketplace: Arts, crafts and plant vendors will set up outside the pagoda with plants, garden arts and tools. Inside the pagoda, find community and gardening organizations.
Food: In conjunction with the garden festival, Metro Parks Tacoma will sponsor a food truck gathering with Mobile Food Command Center, the food truck from X Group Restaurants (owners of Masa, Asado, Choripan and Engine House No. 9). Also serving will be Tacoma-based Vietnamese food truck, VietNom Nom. It’s All Good Coffee will serve espresso, and Ben and Jerry’s will scoop ice cream.
