WinCo store to open soon in S. Tacoma
Discount grocer WinCo Foods will open its South Tacoma store in just over a week.
The employee-owned, Boise-based company has been renovating a former furniture store at 1913 S. 72nd St. for several months. The company announced the April 17 opening date in an invitation to The News Tribune for a special preview.
WinCo opened two Puget Sound-area stores last fall in Lacey and in Everett, bringing the number of Washington WinCo stores to 16. In the South Sound, WinCo has stores in Kent, Federal Way, Sumner, Puyallup and Lacey. In six Western states, Win-Co operates 78 stores.
The South Tacoma WinCo will open April 17 at 9 a.m. Since it was built in the 1980s, the 103,000-square-foot structure in the Tacoma Place shopping center has been a grocery store, a building products superstore and most recently a home furnishings mart. The size is a bit larger than typical WinCo stores, which average 94,000 square feet, according to company data.
