New surgery center, day camp and veterinary clinic coming to South Sound
Three organizations are exploring major projects in the Olympia area, according to city of Lacey and Olympia information.
The biggest of the three is a MultiCare Health System proposal to bring a 34,000-square-foot medical facility to 4312 Pacific Ave. SE, near the intersection with Golf Club Road Southeast in Lacey.
The proposal isn’t official yet, although representatives of the health system were set to meet with Lacey officials this week to get feedback on a single-story emergency department, and a two-story ambulatory surgery center with medical office building.
A spokesperson for MultiCare could not be reached.
Meanwhile, the South Sound YMCA is exploring the creation of a day camp at Long Lake in Lacey. The Y is under contract to purchase property at 7320 14th Ave. SE, according to Lacey information.
Over a period of years, the YMCA would like to build a dining/recreation hall, two to three yurts with running water and electricity, bathrooms, a boat house and parking lot with bus roundabout.
And in Olympia, Banfield Pet Hospital is proposing a 3,600-square-foot veterinary clinic at the West Olympia Place Shopping Center, 1001 Cooper Point Road SW, according to city of Olympia information.
Other business happenings
The Lacey South Sound Chamber of Commerce & Visitors Center has a new home, executive director Blake Knoblauch told The Olympian. The organization can now be found on South Sound Center property at 3925 Eighth Ave., Suite C, which is next to Merle Norman Cosmetics, Wigs & Day Spa. The chamber has occupied 2,000 square feet, he said.
The chamber was previously at 420 Golf Club Road SE.
Although the chamber has moved, the organization’s monthly forums and networking meetings are still at Indian Summer Golf & Country Club, 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., Knoblauch said.
The cafe at New Traditions in downtown Olympia at Fifth Avenue and Water Street has reopened, the business announced to customers this week. It had been closed for three weeks because of the surge in COVID-19 variants.
“So we have expanded our outdoor seating and removed all indoor seating,” the owners said in their message. “This means our workers and customers will be safer since everyone will be masked indoors.”
Farrelli’s Pizza is coming to Yelm in the fall, according to a sign posted outside a former Chinese restaurant at 813 W. Yelm Ave.
Arbutus Folk School will host Latin American folk music group Sin Fronteras for special programming that highlights the canto nuevo musical tradition for all ages, the nonprofit announced.
In October and November, the band will offer music workshops for members of the community ages 12 and older. On Nov. 13, the band will give a live performance for a small audience in the Arbutus Folk School studios.
All skill levels and musical talents are welcome. Students will learn guitar, jarana, percussion, and vocals for songs from the musical tradition, according to Arbutus.
