A Lacey electronics retailer is closing, and a self-storage site is opening
Best Buy is saying goodbye to Lacey, but not Olympia.
The electronics retailer, which operates two stores in Thurston County, is closing its Lacey store on March 5, according to signs posted inside the business and confirmed by employees.
The Lacey Best Buy is in the same shopping center as the Lacey Costco and Home Depot, near the intersection of Marvin Road and Martin Way.
“While these are never easy decisions, this aligns with our regular and on-going review process of stores as leases come up for renewal,” spokesperson Olivia Bruce said. “The Olympia store will remain open and customers can continue shopping there as well as online at BestBuy.com.”
ODA relaunches broken window fund
The Olympia Downtown Alliance, a booster of downtown businesses, has relaunched its broken window fund after windows were broken at six businesses in the past week, Executive Director Todd Cutts said Wednesday.
Three Magnets Brewing Co., a downtown brewery and pub, was among the businesses with damaged windows. The owners shared their story on Facebook.
The broken window fund was first launched in the summer of 2020 after a wave of protests and angry gatherings resulted in broken windows downtown. The fund raised $14,000 at the time, Cutts said.
To make a tax-deductible donation, go to the main page of the Olympia Downtown Alliance. Donation amounts start at $5 and rise to $5,000.
