Chicken wings restaurant coming to Yelm Highway, mall store to move, more housing pitched

Buffalo Wild Wings appears to be coming to a shopping center in south Lacey, according to commercial real estate information.

The Olympian reached out to Buffalo Wild Wings, but did not hear back from the business that currently operates two local restaurants: a full-size restaurant in west Olympia on Black Lake Boulevard, and a to-go site in Olympia on Martin Way.

Now they are pitching a site in Summerwalk Village, a 60,343-square-foot shopping center anchored by Walmart Neighborhood Market at 5123 Yelm Highway SE, according to Retail Opportunity Investments Corp. A map on the ROIC website shows a Buffalo Wild Wings.

The size of the location suggests that it won’t be a full-size restaurant but a to-go site. That business is known as Buffalo Wild Wings Go.

Business on the move

Torrid, a retailer of women’s clothes, is moving from inside Capital Mall to the adjacent outdoor mall location known as the Promenade, according to a check of the property.

What is Torrid?

“We design women’s clothing for sizes 10-30, including plus size dresses, jeans, tops, and accessories that fit flawlessly in every size,” a description reads on the Capital Mall website.

Torrid, a women’s fashion shop, is relocating from its former location inside Capital Mall to the separate Promenade site.

Fundraiser celebrated

A group of Olympia area business owners, who rallied around a local man whose wife recently died of cancer and is now caring for two special-needs children, recently presented him with their efforts, including a place where he can smoke meats, according to an update posted on social media.

The fundraiser was spearheaded by Jeff Devlin who operates the Best of Olympia Facebook page.

The recipient is Jeff Mendiola, who lost his wife, Carley, to leukemia in the spring.

When Jeff Devlin learned that Jeff Mendiola loved barbecue, an idea was born, he said.

“I drafted up an email which would tell a little bit about Carley and Jeff’s story and shared it with some of our (business) members in the community as well as some of my favorite BBQ/smoking companies. Amazingly everyone that I reached out to couldn’t wait to help!!”

“Couldn’t be prouder of how our community and others came together to bring some happiness,” Devlin writes in his post.
