Overview
The 2026 Ford Mustang GTD supercar is little more than a race car that escaped from the circuit. Born from Ford's GT3 racing program, it's essentially a street-legal version of the Mustang GT3 racer. A specially fettled supercharged 5.2-liter Predator V8 nestles under the hood, sending 815 horsepower and 664 lb-ft through a carbon-fiber driveshaft to a rear-mounted 8-speed dual-clutch transaxle.
This achieves a 50/50 weight distribution and helps enable the GTD to lap the Nürburgring in six minutes and 52 seconds, making it the first American car to do it in under seven minutes. With bodies built at Flat Rock and hand-finished by Multimatic in Ontario, Canada, GTD production is extremely limited. The GTD takes the fight to rivals such as the Porsche 911 GT3 RS and Chevy Corvette ZR1.
What's New for 2026?
This is the GTD's second model year, and its pricing and specifications carry over from 2025. The Spirit of America and Carbon Series special editions remain available for the 2026 Mustang GTD, and Ford has introduced VIN-specific incentives for certain buyers. As it was engineered from the beginning as a limited-run halo car with a small production run, there are no styling or mechanical changes.
Exterior
The GTD's aggressive widebody design is derived from the GT3 racer, with carbon-fiber body panels replacing steel to reduce weight and add drama. The panels bulge as the GTD's muscles ripple under its skin, and the vented hood is as outrageous as the oversized fender vents that dissipate wheel-arch pressure. A big rear wing attaches to the C-pillars to provide substantial downforce, and you can order active hydraulically controlled aero flaps and underbody panels to manage airflow. A front splitter and rear diffuser direct air underneath the car.
Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2R tires are fitted to 20-inch forged alloy wheels in staggered 325/345 front/rear sizes, and you can upgrade the wheels to forged magnesium. A race-grade Akrapovič exhaust is standard.
Interior
The GTD's cabin is severely pared back for its born purpose of shedding weight and going fast, but you still get proper climate control, a 12.4-inch digital gauge cluster, and a 13.2-inch center touchscreen for the infotainment system; the displays have gaming-inspired graphics powered by the Unreal Engine, and the layouts are customizable to show g-force readouts and lap times.
The two occupants sit on hand-tailored Recaro seats with laser-etched Miko suede, and there are no rear seats. The available 3D-printed shift paddles and serialized build plate are made of titanium obtained from retired Lockheed Martin F-22 fighter jets.

Verdict
The Ford Mustang GTD is the most extreme road-going Ford ever, with 815 hp from a supercharged V8, race-derived suspension, a rear-mounted transaxle, and active aerodynamics helping it set a new Nürburgring record for an American production car. Multimatic's hand assembly using components borrowed from the GT3 race program, the very low production numbers, and the $318,000-plus price tag make this one very special, capable, and elusive machine.
Sure, it's up against formidable competition in the form of the Corvette ZR1 and Porsche 911 GT3 RS, but what price can you put on rarity and instant collector status? That fearsome 4,300-pound weight has been a talking point, but its balance and grip on the circuit defy the numbers, and it's still going to be the most formidable Mustang ever, and it delivers a singular experience for the lucky enthusiast with the wherewithal to get one.
