NVIDIA deepening ties with LG, SK groups in South Korea

SEOUL, June 8 (UPI) -- NVIDIA founding CEO Jensen Huang met with South Korean business leaders in Seoul to deepen the U.S. tech giant's collaboration with LG Group and SK Group.

LG Group said that it agreed to collaborate with NVIDIA across a broad range of next-generation industries to map out the future of industry after its chairman, Koo Kwang-mo, met with Huang.

The Seoul-based conglomerate said its subsidiaries would work with NVIDIA in such industries as physical AI, AI infrastructure and mobility.

They plan to enhance robot development capabilities and performance across a wide range of robotics applications, including humanoids and logistics robots, according to LG Group.

The two firms also aim to advance mobility AI systems, including advanced driver assistance systems, by integrating LG's proprietary in-vehicle infotainment system with NVIDIA's autonomous driving platform, a news release said.

Major LG affiliates participating in the collaboration are LG Electronics, LG Energy Solution, LG AI Research, LG Innotek and LG CNS.

Koo said the group will join with NVIDIA to transform future industries.

"The blueprint for the AI ecosystem envisioned by NVIDIA aligns with LG's future direction of creating meaningful changes in customers' daily lives and global industrial sites," he said in a statement.

"With [Monday's] meeting as a starting point, we will further solidify our partnership by combining the unique capabilities of both companies."

Huang said he expected the two-way alliance to unlock new growth opportunities in intelligent systems and robotics.

"Korea is extraordinary at manufacturing, mechatronics, and AI, and the fusion of these strengths will make robotics and physical AI a major growth sector for the country," Huang said.

The share price of LG Corp., the holding company of LG Group, fell 7.32% on the Seoul bourse on Monday, while the benchmark KOSPI dipped 8.29%.

Partnership with SK Group

Meanwhile, SK Group key affiliate SK hynix said the memory chipmaker has entered into a multiyear technology partnership with NVIDIA to develop next-generation semiconductors.

The agreement builds on years of collaboration that helped power some of the world's most advanced AI computing platforms, according to SK hynix. The two firms aim to address the lengthy development cycles associated with advanced memory products.

As AI factories expand around the world, SK hynix said that the partnership would allow memory supply to keep pace with NVIDIA's infrastructure roadmap and the continued buildout of AI infrastructure.

By developing memory for such systems as NVIDIA Vera Rubin AI supercomputers, SK hynix said it would diversify into emerging markets being created by NVIDIA, like AI infrastructure and physical AI.

SK hynix also said it is developing fab digital twins as the foundation for autonomous manufacturing operations and futuristic AI factories.

"SK hynix and NVIDIA have been building toward this for years, and this partnership reflects the depth of that collaboration," SK Group Chairman Chey Tae-won said in a statement.

"Together, we are co-developing the next generation of memory for AI factories and applying AI to how we design and manufacture semiconductors - work that will shape the future of AI infrastructure."

Huang said AI factories are the engines of the next industrial revolution.

"SK hynix has been an extraordinary partner to NVIDIA, playing a central role in delivering advanced memory technologies for NVIDIA AI computing platforms," he said.

"Together, we will co-develop the next generation of memory for AI factories and support the accelerating global expansion of AI infrastructure -- from frontier model training to agentic and physical AI."

The share price of LG Corp., the holding company of LG Group, fell 7.32% on the Seoul bourse Monday, while the benchmark KOSPI dipped 8.29%. The share price of SK hynix dropped 7.68%.
