Gas prices up a penny in week

Average retail gasoline prices in Tacoma rose just over a penny in the past week, according to GasBuddy.com. This compares with the national average of $2.16 a gallon, down 5.0 cents per gallon in the past week.

Prices Sunday in Tacoma still were 53.3 cents per gallon lower than the same day one year ago, and are 6.0 cents per gallon higher than a month ago, GasBuddy noted in a news release. The average Tacoma price was $2.51 a gallon Monday.

According to Tacomagasprices.com on Monday, the low-price leader at $1.99 a gallon was the Automotive Service Center at Portland Avenue and Fairbanks Street. Several stations were selling at the next-lowest price, $2.27 a gallon, including Chevron at Bridgeport Way and 108th Street, Arco at Orchard and 56th streets, and Shell in Lakewood at Pacific Highway near Cline Road.

According to washingtongasprices.com, the low-price leader in Olympia was the 76 station at Martin Way and Kingham Street at $2.26 a gallon, followed by Arco at Martin Way near Nisqually Cutoff Road at $2.27 a gallon.

“Terrorism and other geopolitical events always have the potential to bring havoc to Wall Street, but early signs suggest that financial market reactions are subdued,” said Gregg Laskoski, GasBuddy’s senior petroleum analyst for the Northeast in a news release. “That means Friday’s events are not likely to be what drives the direction of crude oil, and market fundamentals can be expected to push retail gasoline prices lower in the U.S.”
