Port of Olympia District 3 race recount set for Wednesday

A machine recount in the Port of Olympia District 3 race between E.J. Zita and Jerry Farmer is set for Wednesday, Thurston County Auditor Mary Hall said Sunday.

Hall expects the recount to begin about 9 a.m., she said.

The District 3 race was certified last week, showing Zita in first place with 26,443 votes, followed by Farmer with 26,216 votes, a difference of 227 votes.

Hall expects that the recount will simply confirm Zita as the winner, she said.

The recount, which is open to the public, will take place at the Ballot Processing Center at 2905 29th Ave. SW, Suite E, Tumwater.

Before the recount, though, the Auditor’s Office will conduct a “logic and accuracy” test on its ballot tabulation machines. That is set for 1 p.m. Monday at the Ballot Processing Center.

The test is a preelection procedure that makes sure voting equipment and ballots will accurately collect and tabulate results.

Anyone with questions about the test or the recount is asked to call the Auditor’s Office at 360-786-5408 or send an email to elections@co.thurston.wa.us.
