Pierce, Thurston counties mortgage-refinance savings trail King County
For the second consecutive year, Pierce County ranked third in the state when annual savings rates on mortgages are compared with other counties.
Thurston County placed seventh in the 2015 evaluation by technology firm SmartAsset.
The company reported this week that in King County, 20,902 mortgages were refinanced for an average of $339,168. After refinancing, the average savings over the previous rate was $4,436.
The SmartAsset index applies to average national pre- and post-refinance interest rates as they relate to the total balance of refinanced mortgages.
In Pierce County, 7,180 mortgages were refinanced in 2015 for an average $216,774, with savings after refinancing of $2,835.
In Thurston County, 2,416 mortgages were refinanced for an average $208,355, with savings of $2,725.
