Gas prices in Tacoma rise more than 6 cents in week

GasBuddy’s weekly survey of gas prices shows the slow creep upward is gaining steam.

Average retail gasoline prices in Tacoma have risen 6.2 cents per gallon in the past week, according to GasBuddy.com.

It’s not all bad news. Prices were 86.7 cents per gallon lower than this time a year ago and just 2.0 cents per gallon higher than a month ago.

Will Speer, GasBuddy senior petroleum analyst, said in a news release Monday: “Although crude oil production fell to the lowest since November 2014, crude and petroleum stocks remain the highest ever recorded in U.S. history. This oversupply will provide a ceiling for gas prices over the next couple of months as spring refinery maintenance and the summer-blend gasoline transition put upward pressure on prices.”

In Tacoma, prices Monday were averaging $2.11 and holding steady, according to Tacomagasprices.com. The lowest prices on the site were $1.85 at the 76 station at Meridian Avenue and Milton Way and $1.86 at the 7-Eleven at 108th Street Southwest and Pacific Highway Southwest, according to the site.

In Olympia, the lowest prices Monday were found at two Arco stations, one at Martin Way East near Nisqually Cutoff Road and at Martin Way East & Ranger Drive Southeast, both at $1.85.
