Port of Olympia cancels chowder challenge

The 2016 BoatSwap & Chowder Challenge has been canceled, the Port of Olympia announced Tuesday, citing a lack of interest from restaurants.

The 2015 event was held in June.

“We very much regret this cancellation,” Executive Director Ed Galligan said in a statement. “Unfortunately, without participation by the restaurants themselves, it is not feasible to offer a successful event of this nature.”

Galligan added that the port will evaluate the event for 2017.

Registration fees will be refunded, he said
