Bayside Quilting 2 in downtown Olympia closes
Bayside Quilting 2, which had occupied a prominent spot in downtown Olympia for about 10 years, closed in April, the owners said Monday.
Owners Pam and Ernie Tuttle tried to sell the business, but were unsuccessful. The business was on State Avenue across from the Olympia Transit Center.
The Tuttles closed the business because they have decided to officially retire — although they were already retired when they started Bayside Quilting as a home business in about 2001, Pam Tuttle said.
That was followed by their first retail store in the 300 block of Capitol Way North. Bayside Quilting 2, at 225 State Ave. NE, came along in 2006. They closed the first store in 2010 and combined it with the larger store on State Avenue, she said.
Over the years, Bayside sold quilting machines and fabrics and taught machine quilting classes.
“It was a good location,” said Pam Tuttle, because it was visible and had parking.
Brad Kisor, who co-owns the property, said the site measures about 7,500 square feet.
“It’s always been a good spot to re-rent,” said Kisor, who has owned it with partners for 30 years. He said he’s received some inquiries about the property, which is a good sign in the real estate world.
Before Bayside Quilting 2 occupied the space, it was home to Don’s Camera, he said.
In retirement, Pam Tuttle said she’s going to spend time with her granddaughters, both of whom are enrolled at South Dakota State University and are on the school’s equestrian team. They like to barrel race, including with their grandmother, who said she sometimes beats them at the sport.
“I have lots of fun stuff to do,” she said.
